HJ Group
Dr. Joe Greenholtz is Managing Partner of the HJ Group, which consists of Platinum Rule Diversity Consulting and HJG Language Solutions.Dr. Greenholtz is an adjunct Professor of Education in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia. He has taught intercultural communication in both Canada and Japan for many years, and has an extensive list of publications and presentations in cross-cultural communication and acculturation.
Dr. Greenholtz has been administering the Language Proficiency Interview (also known as the Foreign Service Interview or FSI) since 1985. The LPI has been used to assess practical speaking skills in the US Foreign Service and the Peace Corps for over 50 years. It is also the scale underlying the TOEIC computer-based speaking test.
In addition to his academic background, Dr Greenholtz has spent half his adult life in Japan - both as an 'expatriate' with Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) and the Canadian Embassy, and as a 'local'. Fluent in Japanese and married to a Japanese spouse, he has seen and lived Japan from every angle. Dr. Greenholtz has been in management positions in the private sector and academia, and has extensive experience in dealing with government ministries and the bureaucracy.

協定の責任者を務め、カナダ大使館 の領事部長および入国管理官としても奉職。また、松下電器産業株式会社(現パナソニック株式会社)で言語プログラムコーディネーターとテスティングコンサ ルタントとして活躍。現在 Kwantlen Polytechnic Universityにて日本文化、日本語を教えている。
ジョー氏はテンプル大学日本キャンパスで教育学修士を取得後、2005年にUBCで博士課程を修了。現在同大学教育学部の準教授(教育学)。博士論文では、調査機器による翻訳の妥当性に関する研究を行った。
学 問的な研究に加え、ジョー氏はHJグループとして異文化認識の査定とトレーニング、日本と関係のある会社への戦略的コンサルティング、日英翻訳 と通訳のサービスを提供。また同氏は、個人および団体における異文化間の感受性の査定を行うために開発された精神測定テスト、インターカルチュラル・ディ ベロップメント・インベントリー(IDI)の認定者でもある。2007年9月からはスピーキングテスト(LPI)によるスピーキング力判定、アドバイスの 業務を開始した。
ジョー氏は リッチモンド異文化諮問委員会(Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee)とリッチモンド姉妹都市委員会のメンバーである。またBC州の高等教育を終えた知的障害を持つ若者の大学などでの活動を支援する非営 利団体STEPS Forward Inclusive Post-secondary Education Societyと隣組 (Japanese Community Volunteer Association)の理事を務めている。
